Tesla Powerwall – A Battery Powered Home

“Powerwall is a home battery that charges using electricity generated from solar panels, or when utility rates are low, and powers your home in the evening. It also fortifies your home against power outages by providing a backup electricity supply. Automated, compact and simple to install, Powerwall offers independence from the utility grid and the security of an emergency backup.”

Update: they will be switching from 2.0 kW continuous, 3.3 kW peak to 5.0 kW continuous, 7 kW peak. More than enough power to run toaster, kettle, dishwasher etc.

  1. Love that Tesla is doing this. I haven’t setup my own solar and power bank yet so I haven’t run the number but I’m curious how closely the cost of a powerwall is to setting up your own equivalent homegrown system.

    • The Powerwall costs more money, but you get added backup that requires no maintenance. Most off gridders use golf cart batteries or the equivalent. Powerwall batteries are more efficient. That’s great if you can afford it.
