I’m starting my earth bag/hobbit home build in a beautiful, out of the way location, in the side of a hill by a lake. I bought the property years ago and paid it off, and began planning my build. I’m starting it this month and planning to dig it out throughout the next few months, until the snow starts flying. Hopefully I’ll have the great room done with a roof and a fireplace so that I can just connect the other rooms from it one at a time, through short hallways back into the hill, tunneling and filling bags as I go to create the walls, archways and floors. The entire landscape is small creek stones on top then, once removed. It’s red clay underneath. Not too hard to dig, but also when harvested and mixed with straw, sand and cement powder it will make a fine brick-bag and will be easy to trowel smooth and lime plaster over. All beams and interior wood accents are going to be harvested from the thousands of acres of forest around my property that is vacant. Apart from some things like tools and hardware, concrete, straw and lime. I shouldn’t have to buy very much to do the whole build and the area is criss crossed by shallow creeks that are packed full of beautiful Creek Rocks and slate slabs. I can’t wait to get started. I’ve been planning it for 5 years, finally able to get it started.
It sounds heavenly. Keep me posted on how it all goes.
I’d like more information please
Keep reading out blog. We have thousands of pages that explain how to build like this.
Unless you live in the enchanted forest i dont think your neighbors or the code cops well approve.
That’s funny, but actually there are still places with few or no codes where you can build pretty much whatever you want. Read the story of BagEnd (4th image), for instance. http://www.mondaymorningmemo.com/newsletters/read/1847
