We’ve been covering a number of low cost furniture styles lately – Rustic Twig Furniture, Rustic Log Furniture, Pallet Furniture, Rustic Furniture, Sundance Furniture and Décor, Pallet Craft.
“Slab furniture is made of heavy lumber. It lends itself well to more rustic interpretations of furniture design, however it also works well with modern design principles.” – Shima Woodcraft
Slab furniture with its large planks of timber has a unique, timeless beauty and elegance that fits perfectly in natural homes. This style of furniture often includes wavy edges and other natural features as opposed to perfectly milled wood. We are happy with our three slab wood tables. They’re low cost, rugged and won’t go out of style.

Very realistic designs. I like the way they are designed.
All of these tables are some piece of art. Slab coffee table is my favorite.
They’re stunning, that’s for sure. I really like the coffee table, but my favorite is the desk. Click the link for more photos: http://www.dumonds.com/desk_executive_claro_walnut.htm
I design and make furniture so I’m always perusing design blogs for inspiration, and a trend that’s been going strong for ages now is the trunk side table. Just portions of tree trunks either completely raw or in various stages of refinement next to a chair or bed, etc. Easy, cheap, and you’ll be stylin’ along with some of the hottest interior designers in the world! ;)
We have a bench made like that out of “thousand year wood”. (Locals say that’s how long it lasts.) It’s just a horizontal log about 3′ long with the top leveled off. Maybe I’ll do a blog post on this topic and include a pic.
A quick search shows logs standing on end (upright). Is that what you mean?
Yes exactly – logs standing on end – you’ll see them EVERYWHERE.
Okay, I put together a blog post on stump furniture and trunk furniture. This in turn led to more ideas for low cost furniture. Great fun. Plus, I think having all these ideas in one place is helpful and can spark new ideas.
Oh and sometimes they use really big ones as coffee tables and put them on wheels for sort of a rustic/industrial vibe.
Very Korean tea roomish. I have “several” photos..I should dig them up.
