Luke, a long time supporter of earthbag building and the guy who set up our Facebook page, sent me this suggestion. We’ve had a lot of requests for information about building earthbag homes in Florida. As usual, you need to contact local building officials and find out what’s required in your area. Florida and California are among the strictest states for building homes, so in most instances it will be challenging and costly due to all the code requirements. That’s why we’re always recommending rural areas with few or no codes. Codes can skyrocket costs 10-fold in some cases. It looks like Song Weaver is in a rural area and it would be great to find out approximately where he lives and how he was able to build.
Hi Owen!
Sounds like Merry Springs just outside of Gainesville? Can you put me in touch with him? My dome suffered from hurricane force rain damage and I stripped it down and have rebuilt it vertical and added cement to the bags. Far stronger. Putting a mono roof on it. Construction is far easier, and was quicker on the rebuild.
The weather here is something to consider. Like seriously!
Regards
Mike
I don’t have his contact info, plus I’m not sure he wants his address etc. put on the Internet. Maybe Luke will see this and chime in.
Ease of roundhouse building vs. domes: This is what I’ve been saving for years. Thanks for your input.
