I just got this email from Michael G. Smith, the expert on cob construction at www.greenhomebuilding.com :
You may or may not know about the Cob Research Institute (CRI), a non-profit corporation founded in 2008 to remove legal barriers to cob construction. One of our goals has been to write a code for cob and to submit it as an appendix to the IRC, similar to the existing appendices on straw bale and straw-clay construction. After years of combing the world’s scientific literature for testing data on cob and performing our own testing program in collaboration with 3 California universities, we are nearly ready to submit our code. However, we need to raise $50,000 to complete thermal testing and code writing, and to shepherd our code through the bureaucratic review process. Time is tight, as we plan to submit our code in early January of 2019 in the hopes that it will be adopted by 2021.
To gain this needed support we have created a GoFundMe / Crowdrise crowdfunding campaign. The link to our campaign is:
Please give our campaign a look and donate whatever you can. Your support, small or large, will help ensure success of this important work. CRI is a 501(c)3 and your donation will be tax deductible. I look forward to seeing your name as a supporter of a cob code!
Thank you,
Michael G. Smith – CRI Director
