Safido Interlocking Brick Machine

Compressed Earth Blocks (CEBs), also called earth blocks or CSEBs is one of the most popular natural building methods in part because bricks are well accepted and understood by builders, and because the walls go up fairly quickly. Thin walls take up minimal space in urban areas where lots are small and expensive. Interlocking bricks add stability. And, of course, the main material is clay which is dirt cheap.

The Safido machine mass produces compressed earth blocks. It looks like they’re making 4 compressed earth blocks per minute. In 8 hours that would be 4 blocks x 60min/hour x 8hrs. = 1,920 blocks per 8 hour shift. I emailed them for details since the video does not provide much information. Search our blog for more articles about CEBs.

  1. Hi,
I am so impressed by your work to enable a fast construction of a building with a good shape and minimum cost.In Kenya where do you have an agent because I know people the machine would sell like a hot cake?

    Kind Regards,

  2. Yes earth blocks is the technology we should encourage. I remember someone saying that if we respect the earth we should build with it. Here in Kenya am doing just that.

  3. It looks like they’ve licensed or copied the mould from the Thai StarTop press you talked about a few years ago. Other than that, seems like a fairly typical automated CEB machine.

  4. One drawback of CEBs is consistency. I happened to see a pallet of CEBs at a store yesterday and noticed about half of them had chipped corners. Where we buy our CEBs the workers are very methodical and handle the blocks very carefully. They are fragile until they’re cured in the shade for a few weeks.
