I thought you’d like to see Gernot Minke’s gallery. He’s one of the most experienced and knowledgeable earth builders around.
His book Earth Construction Handbook: The Building Material Earth in Modern Architecture is the most in-depth, practical book for those who want engineering details. It will set you back $101 at Amazon. Check your local library first. His book covers dozens of earth building methods. His pumice filled tubes were the first documented use of earthbags.
Great blog!
Have read Minke’s work and have to say he’s outstanding.
Highly recommend it.
By the way, was wondering if anyone out there is building in hot humid tropics.
I am planning to build an earthbag roundhouse but termites are a problem here. Any suggestions or experiences from anyone out there who had to build in termite prone areas.
Thanks.
I live and build in a tropical climate. No problems so far. Consider adding borate to the soil mix or stabilize the mix with lime, etc. so termites will go where the conditions are more favorable.
