Earthbag building sweeps the $300 House competition. All three top spots go to earthbag designs, plus designs #5 and #14. This is a great day for earthbag builders. It’s proof that earthbag is growing and reaching wider recognition and acceptance.
Patti Stouter landed first place with her Hyper-wattle design that creates narrower, lighter weight walls with fewer materials. Congratulations on winning and coming up with such an excellent idea.
Well, if there’s anyone in the SE US who might want to team up, I’m all for it and I’ll be there.
Nearly every day my mind is blown by these posts. I love it!
Most prototypes are going to be built in Alabama. More details coming soon.
Earthbags FTW!
Now we have to get some teams together to build prototypes. Winning the contest is just the first step of a year-long process to perfect the designs and start building in poor areas. Right now I’m leaning toward Dada’s thin shell geopolymer dome built on an airform: http://geopolymerhouses.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/geopolymer-dome-built-on-airform/
This is cutting edge technology that would create a 100% all natural stone building (no Portland) that could last hundreds of years.
