Dingle Dell: More than a Cob Cottage

Devon craftsman Kevin McCabe, known as the “king of cob” created Dingle Dell, a masterpiece of soil and straw designed to meet the highest environmental standards.

This project featured on Grand Designs television program, and the presenter called it a “true almighty challenge”.

Part of the complex known as The Gatehouse is now available to rent with Airbnb. It is a lovely retreat for two, converted from a previous bicycle workshop. It’s most eye-catching feature is the spoked roof, similar to the spokes of a bicycle wheel. The sleeping platform is accessed by a stair ladder with a natural wood balustrade.

There’s an underfloor heated shower room, and a handmade kitchen made from oak that Kevin dried and shaped himself.
