“The process of building our green home – A Photo Journal.
This is a big post with very few words except for the captions. The idea is to have a sticky post at the top of the page for any visitors to the blog to get a snapshot view of the progress of the house from since the start in 2009. We will keep updating the progress as we near completion of our home.
“While we started the work, I happened to do an internship. We have to do a room in a fenced area, and I had the idea of doing it with superadobe. We also made a saloncillo or room for people and a bathroom.
People are dreaming of a better world with homes made of natural materials.
“Argentina is an ideal land to create a radical shift in how homes are built and how we live as a society. Once out of the city, building codes dissolve and one is free to design and build to heart’s content. Here in the sierras land is abundant. I’d love to see some of your designs or hear more about your story.
“This construction project was on invitation from the local council in Carrancas, (Minas Gerais, Brazil) to offer a prototype for an eco and low cost solution to social housing. It was a three-month project which was received with much attention and enthusiasm from the community and council, and has been well-loved since by its occupants.”
“Now that the walls are all covered with adobe, I can probably work on the roof this winter when we have decent weather. You can’t do adobe work if it’s too cold, but we typically have lots of nice enough days in the winter for working on a roof. The next posting will be when significant framing is done for the roof.”
