“This is my earthbag, still under contruction, but I live there with my family for 2 yr. It’s been great, very good insulation with my amish cook stove, in hot summer stays cool. I build it very cheap… I did lime, cement plaster, stucco this yr. And painted it the way they do in europe, throw it on. I did 3 coats, 3rd coat was finish, no cracks! I tried cob plaster , but I did not like it. This feels much more strong…

Straw Bale Roundhouse in Taos, NM
We were just talking about strawbale roundhouses the other day. (See: Straw Bale Roundhouses Built in One Day.) This one is in New Mexico. I highly encourage people to try gravel bag foundations. (Polypropylene bags or tubes filled with gravel.) They could have saved a great deal of time, money and effort. A small, simple foundation like this one can be built in one day with two workers. Our free websites and articles explain the details.
Wisconsin Round Barns List

The name pretty much says it all. Lots of readers are interested in building roundhouses, and so when a reader sent me this website I just had to post it here for all to see. (Thanks, Richard.) There are around 100 round barns on the list, and they’re a good source of inspiration. Look closely for details.
Straw Bale Roundhouses Built in One Day

A kindred spirit sent me a memorable letter about 10 years ago. They had read about the strawbale roundhouse I helped build with the Lakota Sioux in South Dakota. (I recently found out the roundhouse later got destroyed in a flood.)
