Fun Contemporary Passive Solar, Earth-bermed Home

Blending passive solar design with a contemporary flair, this four-bedroom home in Connecticut has earth sheltering, radiant floors and solar panels.

It was designed by Charles Woods, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, and was featured on the cover of Popular Science Magazine in 1988. Charles has written 4 books including, Natural Architecture , The Complete Earth Sheltered House, A Natural System of House Design, and Designing Your Natural House.

The home offers over 3,000 square feet of interior space. There are many angles to this home with an abundance of natural lighting, cathedral ceilings and exposed beams.

The interior also features tongue and groove natural cedar throughout.

This house is located in a rural neighborhood along the Appalachian Trail parallel to the Housatonic River and abuts acres of national conservation land.
