Sustainable Lifestyle from Spreading the Word
Jon is creating a sustainable lifestyle for himself in a poor country. He is fortunate to have access to a computer and the Internet. With a little help from a friend, he’s discovered a whole new world of possibilities for building sustainable homes, cooking stoves, heaters, renewable energy, organic gardens and more. Jon has discovered some of the free guides on the Internet that explain and illustrate extremely low cost ways of living and building things. He’s not only getting a great (and free) education for himself. He’s also learning valuable skills that can help his local community raise their standard of living, improve their health and create sustainable jobs.

Rocket Mass Heaters – Super Efficient Woodstoves You Can Build
“Here is a superefficient wood fired heater you can build for yourself in a weekend for less than a hundred dollars. This book explains in detail exactly how to build one, then how to use it in a range of applications.
We discuss materials: where to find them, what to pay and how to make use of found and recycled parts. The section on fire and fuels is thorough but simple; we tried to keep away from numbers wherever possible.
Natural Toilets

Jerry Epps at Teach Democracy.org shares his thoughts on three types of natural toilets. Jerry plans to have product for sale by November 1 this year. The natural toilets would be for use in remote areas anywhere they can use overland shipping (USA, Canada, Northern Mexico). Shipping product overseas is cost prohibitive.
Jerry hopes to franchise to other countries. He will teach them how to manufacture and assemble and they will be licensed as franchisee to do the business of marketing and sales of the Eppivent.
Low Cost Cistern

“A cistern liner is a flexible membrane, sometimes called a geomembrane. You can get them in PVC or EPDM.
Here’s a link to where we get our potable liners:

Thanks to Paul Coleman (who’s building his own earthbag house in Patagonia) for sending info about this earthbag project in Chile. Paul and his wife Konomi just won an international sustainable living contest. A film crew is coming all the way to Patagonia from Japan to put them on National TV. Check out their blog. They must surely live in one of the beautiful places in the world. Please send us your tips. Our email address is at the top of the page.
